Disclosures

Everything you should know about who we are, what we don't do, and how we get paid — consolidated in one place.

A note on this page. This is a starting template and not legal advice — have counsel review it before you run traffic.

Not licensed. No advice. No products.

RetireLevel is a marketing company. We are not an insurance company, not a licensed insurance producer, not a broker-dealer, and not a registered investment adviser.

We do not provide financial, tax, legal, investment, or insurance advice. We do not sell annuities or any other financial product — there is nothing to buy on this site. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy, sell, hold, move, or keep any asset or account, and nothing here is an offer or solicitation of any kind.

Any discussion of a specific product takes place with a licensed professional, not with us, and any decision is yours.

How we are compensated

This is the disclosure that matters most, so it is stated plainly.

When you submit the assessment, RetireLevel may introduce you to a state-licensed insurance professional. That professional has paid, or will pay, RetireLevel a referral fee for the introduction.

  • You are never charged. The assessment and the income review are free to you.
  • You are never under any obligation — not to take a call, not to remain on one, and not to buy anything.
  • The professional is independent of RetireLevel. They are not our employee, agent, or partner. They are responsible for their own conduct, advice, and recommendations. We do not supervise or control them.
  • If you buy an annuity or other insurance product, the professional is usually paid a commission by the insurance company. RetireLevel is paid for the introduction, not for any purchase.

This compensation arrangement is a conflict of interest, and we disclose it on every page rather than in a footnote so that you can weigh what we say accordingly.

About annuities

  • Annuities are insurance products issued by insurance companies. They are not bank deposits, not FDIC insured, and not insured by any federal government agency.
  • Guarantees, including guaranteed rates, principal protection and lifetime income, are backed by the financial strength and claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company. State guaranty associations provide additional protection up to limits that vary by state.
  • Annuities are long-term products. Most deferred annuities have surrender charges for withdrawals above a stated free amount during a surrender period, which can last several years. Optional riders carry additional annual fees.
  • Fixed indexed annuities are not an investment in the stock market or in any index. Interest credited is subject to caps, participation rates or spreads that can change, and does not include dividends.
  • Withdrawals of earnings are taxed as ordinary income, and withdrawals before age 59½ may be subject to a 10% additional federal tax. Annuities held inside an IRA or other tax-deferred account provide no additional tax deferral.
  • Variable annuities are securities, are sold only by prospectus through securities-licensed representatives, and can lose value.
  • Product features, availability and terms vary by insurer and by state.

Not affiliated with the government or any plan

RetireLevel is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the U.S. government, the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB), the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the Social Security Administration, or any government agency, nor with any employer, retirement plan, or plan provider. We are a private company, and this is not a government website.

Official rules, current figures, and forms are available from the plans themselves: tsp.gov for the TSP, ssa.gov for Social Security, and your plan administrator for a 401(k), 403(b), or 457(b). Where anything on this site conflicts with them, they are correct and we are not.

Educational purposes only

All content on this site is provided for general educational purposes. It describes how retirement accounts and annuities work in broad terms, for a general audience. It is not tailored to you, it does not take account of your circumstances, and it should not be relied on as though it were. Tax and plan rules described here are summaries and may change.

No guarantees of outcome

Nothing on this site is a guarantee, a promise, or an assurance of any outcome. We publish no return figures and no projections. Any general statement about how an option works is a description of its mechanics, not a prediction of what it will do for you.

Testimonials, statistics, and endorsements

We do not publish customer counts, testimonials, press logos, performance statistics, or credentials we cannot stand behind. If you do not see such claims on this site, that is deliberate rather than an oversight.

This site may link to third-party sites. Those links are provided for convenience. We do not control third-party sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability. A link is not an endorsement, and no link implies any affiliation with or endorsement of RetireLevel by the linked party.
